What Does Wellness Really Mean in Clive IA?

Chiropractic Clive IA What Does Wellness Really Mean

Wellness seems to be the one thing everyone is talking about with Clive IA chiropractors and trying to improve in their own lives, especially nowadays with all the new health topics coming up… but what does it really mean, and is it as important as people make it seem?

If you look up the term, I used Wikipedia and found the definition being; a healthy balance of mind, body, and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being. A doctor in the 1950s, Halbert L. Dunn, M.D., began using the phrase, "High-Level Wellness." Dr. Dunn defined wellness as "an integrated method of functioning which is oriented toward maximizing the potential of which the individual is capable. It requires that the individual maintain a continuum of balance and purposeful direction within the environment where he is functioning." He also stated that, "wellness is a direction in progress toward an ever-higher potential of functioning."

Now that we understand the overall meaning of the word, why are we discussing it?

Well, this is a term we focus on in the chiropractic and the massage world as that is our general goal, to improve the overall well-being of our client's mind, body, and spirit.

Chiropractic and massage therapy is considered alternative medicine as we are using the body to improve itself rather than any help from outside medicine. We believe the body can heal itself as long as the body is well taken care of.

For example, on the chiropractic side of things, you could have a simple subluxation, which is generally speaking about a "structural displacement." That simple subluxation could be causing other issues within your body that could be having an effect on your overall wellness.

Then, on the massage therapy side of things, you could have a tight muscle or a strained muscle, which could be blocking proper blood flow, which in turn can also have an effect on your overall wellness.

To sum things up, taking care of yourself is of course important when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle in Clive IA. Focusing on your overall wellness is just as important. This includes opening up your horizons to chiropractic and massage therapy.
